This Privacy Policy explains how piCue collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the piCue mobile app and the picue.app website (together, the "Service"). It applies to users located outside Türkiye, including the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Users in Türkiye are covered by our Turkish privacy notice under the KVKK.
piCue is operated by Piklabs Yazılım ve Teknoloji Hizmetleri Limited Şirketi ("Piklabs", "piCue", "we", "us"), a company organized under the laws of Türkiye. Our address is Gayrettepe Mah. Nurgül Sk. Polat 8 Apt. No: 8 İç Kapı No: 2, 34349 Beşiktaş, İstanbul, Türkiye.
Short version: we use your information to run piCue, personalize your movie and TV recommendations, keep the community safe and show ads to users who don't have Plus. We do not sell your personal information for money. You can turn off personalized ads and usage analytics in the app, and you can delete your account at any time.
Information you give us:
Account information: Your username, display name, email address, date of birth, U.S. state (or city outside the United States), and your password if you sign up with email. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address that service shares with us (with Apple, this may be a private relay address).
Profile information: Your profile photo, cover photo, bio and the visibility settings you choose.
Taste and activity information: Your answers to the onboarding quiz, the cards you swipe, your Picsona result, favorites, watchlist, watched titles, ratings, lists and collections, the streaming services you tell us you subscribe to, and lists you import from IMDb or Letterboxd files.
Community content: Threads, comments, votes, follows, CueMates groups and matches, game scores and anything else you post on the Service.
Communications: Messages you send to our support team, reports you file about content or users, and appeals.
Information collected automatically:
Device and technical information: Device model, operating system, app version, language, IP address, session information, crash and error logs, and a push notification token if you allow notifications.
Usage information: Which screens you open and which features you use, when the app is opened and closed, and how long sessions last. We collect this with PostHog (see Section 4). You can turn it off in Settings > Privacy.
Advertising and attribution information: Your device advertising identifier (on iOS, only if you allow tracking in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt), ad impressions and interactions, and how you found piCue (for example, which campaign or link led to the install). We collect this with Google AdMob and AppsFlyer.
Approximate region: We determine your country from the App Store or Google Play storefront you downloaded piCue from, or from your device time zone. We do not collect GPS or precise location.
Information from others:
Subscription status: When you buy piCue Plus, Apple or Google processes the payment. We receive confirmation of your subscription status, plan and transaction identifiers through RevenueCat. We never receive your card number or bank details.
Other users: Other users may mention you, reply to you, follow you or report your content.
We do not ask for or intentionally collect precise location, your contacts or address book, your calendar, microphone recordings, your full photo library (only the image you pick is uploaded), health information, biometric information, or government ID numbers. Please don't post sensitive information about yourself or others in public areas of the Service.
Our recommendation and Picsona features are automated, but they are for entertainment and discovery only. They do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Other users. Your username, display name, profile and cover photo, bio, public lists and collections, threads, comments, follows and your Picsona card (if you keep it visible) can be seen by other users. If you make your profile private, only followers you approve can see your profile. Your email address, date of birth and state are never shown on your profile.
Service providers. We use the following providers to run piCue. They may only use your information to provide their service to us:
Supabase: Hosting, database, authentication and file storage.
Apple and Google: App distribution, in-app purchases, sign-in, and push notifications (Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging).
RevenueCat: Subscription status and management.
PostHog: Usage analytics, stored in the United States. We send your account ID, username, display name, Plus status, age range, Picsona type and sign-up date. We do not send your threads, comments or search text. If you turn off usage analytics, nothing is sent.
Google AdMob: Ads for users without Plus.
AppsFlyer: Install attribution: which ad or link led to the install, plus sign-up, free trial and purchase events linked to your account ID. If you turn off personalized ads, we ask AppsFlyer to anonymize you.
Google (Gemini API): Generates replies when you tag one of piCue's character accounts. We send the text of the tag, the thread title and body, other comments in the thread and the display names of their authors. We do not send email addresses, usernames or account IDs. Under Google's paid API terms, this data is not used to train Google's models.
Resend: Verification, security and service emails.
TMDB: Movie and TV information and images. We query TMDB for titles, not for you; no personal information is sent.
Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is required by law, legal process or a government request, or is needed to protect the rights, safety or property of piCue, our users or others.
Business transfers. If piCue is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
With your consent. We may share information in other ways if you ask us to or agree to it.
We do not sell your personal information for money. However, if you have not turned off personalized ads, Google AdMob and AppsFlyer may use your advertising identifier and in-app activity for ad personalization and measurement across apps. Some U.S. state laws call this "sharing" or "targeted advertising".
You can opt out at any time:
You will still see ads after opting out, but they will be less relevant. piCue Plus removes ads.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Browsers can send "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signals. piCue is a mobile app and the picue.app website does not run ad or analytics trackers, so these signals have no effect. Use the in-app setting above to opt out of personalized ads.
Depending on where you live, laws in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states give residents rights over their personal information. Based on our current size, piCue may not be legally required to comply with some of these laws, but we offer the following rights to all users in the United States:
How to make a request: email hey@picue.app from the email address on your piCue account, with the subject "Privacy Request" and your username. To protect your account, we may ask you to confirm the request from that address or answer a question about your account. An authorized agent may submit a request for you with your signed permission; we may still ask you to verify your identity directly.
We will respond within 45 days. If we need more time (up to 45 more days), we will tell you why.
Appeals: if we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with the subject "Appeal". We will respond within 60 days (45 days for Colorado residents). If you are not satisfied, you may contact your state attorney general.
California notice at collection: In the last 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (username, email, account ID, device and advertising identifiers, IP address); customer records (name, email); characteristics (date of birth); commercial information (subscription status and history); internet or other electronic network activity (in-app usage, ad interactions); approximate geolocation (country and state); audio or visual information (photos you upload); inferences (your Picsona and taste profile); and sensitive personal information (account login). Sources, purposes and recipients are described in Sections 1, 3 and 4. Retention is described in Section 10. Identifiers, internet activity and inferences may be "shared" with Google AdMob and AppsFlyer for cross-context behavioral advertising unless you opt out. We have not sold personal information for money.
California "Shine the Light": We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
Nevada: We do not sell covered information as defined by Nevada law. You may still email hey@picue.app with the subject "Nevada Do Not Sell Request".
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection apply to our processing of your personal data. Piklabs is the controller of your personal data. You can reach us at hey@picue.app.
Legal bases. We process your personal data on these legal bases:
Contract: To create and run your account and provide the Service you asked for: your profile, recommendations, lists, community features, games and piCue Plus.
Legitimate interests: To keep piCue safe (moderation, spam and fraud prevention), to fix bugs and improve the Service, to measure how the app is used, and to show non-personalized ads that keep piCue free. You can object to usage analytics at any time in Settings > Privacy > Usage analytics.
Consent: For personalized ads and ad measurement (Google AdMob, AppsFlyer), which we ask for through the consent message when you first open piCue, and for push notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings > Privacy > Ad and measurement consent, or in your device settings for notifications. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that happened before.
Legal obligation: To keep transaction records and respond to lawful requests.
Your rights. You have the right to access your personal data and receive a copy, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can use most of these rights directly in the app (Settings > Download my data, Settings > Delete account, and the privacy settings in Section 6). For anything else, email hey@picue.app from the email address on your account with the subject "Privacy Request". We will respond within one month; if your request is complex we may extend this by up to two more months and will tell you why.
Complaints. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in the country where you live or work, or where you believe your rights were infringed. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first at hey@picue.app.
International transfers. Our service providers process personal data outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, including in the United States and Türkiye. Where a country does not have an adequacy decision, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK and Swiss equivalents) or on the provider's certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Automated decisions. Our recommendations and Picsona are automated but do not produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
You must be at least 16 years old to use piCue. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and do not allow accounts for anyone younger. piCue is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If we learn that someone under 16 has an account, we will close it and delete their personal information unless the law requires us to keep it. If you believe a child is using piCue, please email hey@picue.app.
We keep your information for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, lists, collections, favorites, watchlist, ratings, threads, comments, follows and preferences from our active systems, or make them impossible to link back to you.
Some information is kept longer when necessary: moderation and safety records (strikes count for 90 days; records of serious violations and of accounts closed for abuse may be kept longer to prevent re-registration), subscription and transaction records needed for accounting and tax purposes, information needed for an ongoing dispute or legal request, and data in backups, which are overwritten on a rolling cycle, generally within 30 days.
Resetting your account (Settings > Reset account) clears your taste profile so you can start over: your Picsona, quiz answers, favorites, watched titles, watchlist and lists. Your account, XP, game scores, threads, comments and follows stay. Deleting your account is permanent.
Deleting your piCue account does not cancel a Plus subscription purchased through Apple or Google. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, database access rules that limit each user to their own private data, and restricted administrator access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.
piCue is operated from Türkiye. Our service providers store and process information in the United States, the European Union and other countries. When you use piCue, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries whose data protection laws differ from those of your state. We use contractual safeguards with our service providers to protect your information wherever it is processed.
piCue shows where titles are available to stream and may link to streaming services, app stores and other websites. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them, and we are not responsible for their practices.
We may update this policy as the Service or the law changes. We will change the "Last updated" date above, and if a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
